Mini Vinnies
We are proud to have established a ‘Mini Vinnies’ group at St Martin’s!
‘Mini Vinnies’ are children aged between 7 to 11 who, with the permission of their parents and the support of their Schools, are encouraged to embark on their first steps as possible ‘Vincentians for life’.
Those wishing to become a Mini Vinnie are invited to apply in school and state how they would carry out good deeds in the community.
Mini Vinnies is about doing good works in the community. The Vinnies model of ‘See, Think, Do’ is a great way to get young people thinking and talking about their spirituality; by connecting their beliefs and values with service activities and issues in their community, they can help to make their faith real, meaningful and relevant.
‘Our Mini Vinnies’ group will meet once a month afterschool and are always busy planning on how they can reach out to the people in need in our community!
What Do Mini Vinnies Do?
Mini Vinnies engage in a variety of activities that promote kindness, empathy, and social action.
What Mini Vinnies Do When Organising Events
Start with “See, Think, Do”
See – What’s the problem or need? (e.g. hunger, loneliness, homelessness)
Think – What can we do to help? What resources do we have?
Do – Take action through an event or campaign
Plan the Event
Mini Vinnies help with:
Choosing the type of event (e.g. food collection, fundraiser, community project)
Setting a goal
Picking a date and venue (school hall, playground, classroom, etc.)
Creating a name or theme for the event
Promote It
Make posters and signs
Write and read out announcements in assembly
Visit classrooms to spread the word
Help create displays
Use social media or newsletters (with teacher/parent help)
Get Everyone Involved
Encourage class members and families to join in
Explain the “why” behind the event so others understand who it helps
Set up collection boxes, donation points, or event stations
Run the Event
Depending on the event, Mini Vinnies:
Greet participants
Collect and sort donations
Help with setup and pack-up
Keep a tally of items collected or money raised
Wear badges or Mini Vinnie shirts to show leadership
Say Thank You & Reflect
After the event, Mini Vinnies:
Help thank everyone who donated or helped
Reflect as a group: What worked well? What did we learn?
Share results in assembly, newsletter, or with local Vinnies group.
